Constructed in 1939 and expanded in 1961, 1967, and 2003, the school boasts 11 classrooms, allocated spaces for our music sessions and a school library, and benefits from a well-equipped hall that serves both as a gymnasium and a canteen. Adjacent to the school, within the DPLA building, lies a playgroup and an After School Club, enhancing the offerings to both the school and the playgroup community. A Breakfast Club is also available every morning for students.
The school’s expansive grounds are adorned with trees, primarily grass-covered, with designated hard-surfaced areas for younger students. Facilities include a netball court, a nature reserve, and an extensive garden.
Located amidst predominantly modern residential areas, the school enjoys a picturesque setting overlooking the town of Conwy across the River Conwy. The breathtaking views of the Carneddau mountain range are visible from the school. It is conveniently situated near Vardre Hill, known for its historical Anglo-Welsh castle ruins, and Deganwy beach is within easy reach. The surrounding environment offers a rich and interesting backdrop, extensively utilised in the school’s curriculum activities.
School Language Classification:Transitional 2
As a Transitional Category 2 School, Ysgol Deganwy is working towards being a Dual Language Category 2 School. Our aim is for at least 50% of learners’ school activities (both curricular and extra-curricular) will be in Welsh. As a school we will be working closely with all stakeholders to achieve this vision.
