Equal Opportunities and Accessibility
At Ysgol Deganwy, we are dedicated to providing equal education and opportunities for everyone involved with the school, regardless of disability, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, marriage, and civil partnership. Our goal is to foster a culture of inclusion and diversity, where everyone associated with the school feels valued and fully engaged in school life.

We actively monitor student achievements to support pupils, enhance standards, and ensure teaching is inclusive. Discrimination is addressed through the positive promotion of equality, combating bullying and stereotypes, and cultivating a respectful environment for all. We view diversity as a strength to be respected and celebrated by everyone at Ysgol Deganwy.

The school maintains a Strategic Equality Plan and an Accessibility Plan, detailing further actions to improve access for pupils with disabilities, available upon request.

Safeguarding
Our safeguarding procedures are in line with ‘The Wales Safeguarding Procedures 2019’. Mrs Hâf Williams, Mrs Zoe Parry, and Mr Thomas Jones serve as the school’s Safeguarding Co-ordinators, with Mr Mark Devereux as the designated school governor for safeguarding.

Medicals
The School Medical Officer and the Dental Officer periodically visit to examine the children. Parents will be notified in advance of these visits and are welcome to accompany their child.

The School Nurse
The school nurse’s visits primarily focus on screening, including a comprehensive series of medical inspections and preventative measures such as eyesight, color vision, and hearing tests, along with height, weight checks, selective medical exams, and dental inspections.

Drugs Awareness
The school occasionally hosts the “Don’t Touch, Tell!” theatre group, addressing the topic of drugs in an accessible manner. The aim is to educate pupils on the difference between prescription medication and other substances, teaching them refusal skills. A Police Liaison Officer also conducts annual workshops on this and other topics.

Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) in the Curriculum for Wales
RSE is a statutory component of the Welsh Government’s RSE Code, designed to keep children safe and promote healthy, respectful relationships. The school is required to ensure developmentally appropriate learning, offering diverse perspectives on RSE without promoting one view over another. The school’s RSE teaching resources and policy are available upon request.

Religion, Values, and Ethics (RVE)
RVE is a compulsory aspect of our Humanities curriculum, incorporating a range of religious and non-religious philosophical beliefs. Our curriculum respects the primarily Christian religious traditions of Wales while also acknowledging other major religions and non-religious convictions present in Wales.
